Chris Walkowicz fell in love with Bearded Collies in 1977, the year the breed was recognized by The Arcadia’s Marcy of Rich-Lin, C.D., R.O.M., that year and later, in co-ownership with Arcadia Bearded Collies, added top-producing Ch. Edenborough Quick Silver, R.O.M. These two bitches were the foundation of Walkoway Beardies.
Chris has bred more than forty Bearded Collie and German Shepherd champions. She owns and trained the second OTCh and first UDX Beardie, plus many other obedience and herding titled dogs at her Walkoyay Dennels.
Walkoway has produced several champions and obedience titleholders in both breeds, but Chris is most proud of producing happy and lovely companions.
A professional writer, Chris has written over two hundred articles— most of them on dogs—and for six years wrote a weekly column on dogs. Her articles have appeared in national dog publications, including Pure-Bred Dogs- American Kennel Gazette, Dogs USA, Kennel Review, Dog World, Dog Fancy, Dogs in Canada, and Breed & Show. She has authored or co-authored six books. The first, Successful Dog Breeding, won the 1985 "Best Book of the Year" award from the dog Writers’ Association of America, an organization which she currently serves as Vice President.
A licensed AKC judge, she has also served as Vice President of the National War Dogs memorial Project, and ins a member of the Bearded Collie Club of America, the Dog Judges Association of America, and the National league of Pen women.
She has been awarded the Distinguished Service Award for extraordinary achievement and communication excellence by DWAA, the Mary French Award for Outstanding Quad-city Author, and BCCA Service Award.
