Mary Norton Kratt was born in West Virginia but has spent most of her life in the lowlands of North Carolina. A graduate of Agnes Scott College, Kratt has been published in numerous newspapers, magazines and literary journals, including Southern Review, Southern Poetry Review, South Carolina Review, and the International Poetry Review. She lives with her family in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Bill Drath grew up in Wisconsin, but spent many years south of the Mason-Dixon line. Born in 1915, he graduated from the University of Wisconsin, served in the Army during World War II and the Korean War, and retired in 1966 as a lieutenant colonel. In addition to SOUTHERN IS..., Drath also illustrated WILLOWCAT AND THE CHIMNEY SWEEP and IF I FOUND A WISTFUL UNICORN. He died in 1991.
