A 1962 graduate of Khyber Medical College, Peshawar, Pakistan, Dr. S. Amjad Hussain holds an emeritus professorship in thoracic and cardiovascular surgery at the University of Toledo, where he also sits on the university's board of trustees. He has served as president of the Islamic Center of Greater Toledo, president of the Academy of Medicine of Toledo, and president of Toledo Surgical Society. He is a founding member of the Association of Pakistani Physicians of North America and founder of the Khyber Medical College Alumni Association of North America. He has been a columnist on the op-ed pages of the daily (Toledo) Blade newspaper since 1994. He also writes for a number of other newspapers in the United States and in Pakistan. He is the author of six Urdu and six English books on varied subjects such as culture, history, religion, international relations, and the exploration of the Indus River.
