This book is about global hunger, and our backyard garden. It looks at the opportunities that the future holds for people facing hunger all over the world, with these objectives: 1. To create an awareness that there is a world of potential beyond tomatoes and green beans. 2. To note what some of the hunger relief organizations are doing, and how we can all be a part of the solution to the problems of hunger, malnutrition, and starvation. Food security is a real possibility, but not if we work in isolation from the wisdom of the others around us. 3. To discover new and ancient gardening practices. Hopefully this text will lead us toward a partnership with nature and a willingness to cooperate among ourselves.

Husband and wife team Hank Bruce and Tomi Jill Folk spent years collecting and growing edible plants from all over the world. Hank would do the research, writing, and illustrations; Tomi provided some of the stories and photos to bring added life to the book. Together they are also co-founders of the nonprofit Hunger Grow Away, applying what they learned in writing Global Gardening to help recognize plants that are easy to add to our diets, learning much from the people who have lived with the land for generations. They claim to only have had one plant be a complete failure for their taste buds--but they got a good story from it, so it wasn't wasted. To get some new ideas about what to raise where, or some old ideas that need to be kept and not lost forever, follow the authors' example and enjoy our Global Garden. A seed company in France used the book to organize its catalog for a season, making many delightful foods readily available to try.
