Julia Ward Howe wrote The Battle Hymn of the Republic on hotel stationery, and it was in the Willard lobby that U.S. Grant, bothered by office seekers, coined the term LOBBYIST. This book traces the history through prose and pictures chronicling the hotel's growth and development, good times and hard times, showing why it holds a special place in our past and our hearts.

About the Author
Richard and Marie Carr are a husband and wife writing team. Richard Carr, is a 5th generation Washingtonian, who was one of a handful of people who, back in the early 1970s, helped save the historic Willard Hotel from a wrecking ball and today oversees the operation of the Willard project. Marie Carr is a former scientist. The Carrs have three children and live in Washington, DC.
