Although dealing with all models from M/742 through M/1206 manufactured from 1963 to 1981, this book specifically covers the four basic types of Bally machines: single coin, five coin multiplier, three-line and five-line criss-cross. However, the knowledge gained from this book will enable the reader to work on a great many other Bally machines. Over 300 detailed photographs, 94 isolated circuit diagrams and four complete, large, fold-out schematics (printed on colored paper for ease in locating) for the four basic types are accompanied by step-by-step instructions for all routine maintenance operations, as well as complete assembly, disassembly, overhaul, lubrication and theory of operation.
The book is organized into 17 chapters with six appendices. Methods used to calculate payout characteristics have been demonstrated, so the statistics of any machine can be computed by the reader. Additionally, there is a detailed lubrication guide specifying the precise location and type of lubricants required on the various assemblies. A comprehensive trouble-shooting guide is included for routine, easy-to-fix malfunctions.
Throughout the book are numerous charts, tables and diagrams; each electrical diagram contains location codes for the electrical components so that they can easily be found.
This extraordinary full-size (8.5" x 11") book has been written specifically for the person who is a novice with electricity and has had no prior training in the mechanics of slot machines. This approach allows the reader to become comfortable with the simple circuits (and their mechanical interfaces) used in the Bally electromechanical slot machines. Thus, with a few simple tools you'll be able to analyze and correct any problem you may encounter with your Bally machine.

Each of the five books in the Owner's Pictorial Guide series is the most comprehensive work ever published about the particular slot machine covered. They are original works, not reprints of old service technician's booklets; they begin with the basics and teach theory, thereby enabling the reader to overcome any problem the machine may have. Whether you have one or several of the particular machines covered, you will want these extraordinary books in your library. From the Back Cover:
Do you know . . . how to use the front door indicator lamps to trouble-shoot the entire slot machine? The most common cause of complete power failure to the machine (not the fuses)? How to remove the reel assembly from the reel mechanism in only five seconds? How to clear coin jams in less than nine seconds? How to force winning combinations for the verification of payouts? How to stop that annoying buzzing sound on the front door while the machine is being coined? Why almost all machine problems are mechanical and can be spotted visually? How to change the denomination of the machine in about eight seconds? How to clean the slot machine by using only soap and warm water? the major cause of erratic pays? the major reason the machine refuses to play after accepting a coin? the only repair, excluding a loose wire, that requires a soldering iron? How to properly lubricate almost all moving parts by loosening one screw?
If the answer to any of these questions can benefit your collecting and working with the Bally electromechanical slot machine, then this book is an absolute must! All of these maintenance tricks, as well as thousands more, are revealed inside this illustrated and easy-to-use manual!
