About the Author

Gordon Lawrence, Ph.D., has been developing practical uses of the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator instrument since the early 1970s. He helped organize the first-ever conference of MBTI users in 1975 and helped to found the Association for Psychological Type four years later. When the first edition of People Types and Tiger Stripes appeared in 1979, it was the first book about uses of the MBTI instrument other than the MBTI Manual. Through workshops and teaching he has introduced the MBTI instrument and psychological type concepts to thousands of people. In addition to many articles about type, he has written Descriptions of the Sixteen Types (CAPT 1995) and Looking at Type and Learning Styles (CAPT1997). He coauthored with Charles Martin, Ph.D., Building People, Building Programs: A Practitioner s Guide for Introducing the MBTI to Individuals and Organizations (CAPT 2001). Dr. Lawrence was the third president of the Association for Psychological Type (APT), and he directed the development of the APT MBTI training program to qualify people to purchase and use the MBTI instrument. He used the MBTI assessment extensively in research, teaching, and consulting during the twenty years that he was professor of instructional leadership at the University of Florida. He has served on the board of directors of the Center for Applications of Psychological Type in Gainesville, Florida, since its founding in 1975 by Isabel Myers, the developer of the MBTI instrument, and Mary McCaulley, Ph.D. Now retired from university work, Dr. Lawrence continue to write and consult mostly about applications of psychological type.
