In the 1930s Henry County, Illinois was unlike any other farming county in the midwest: it was the nerve center for a gang of locals holed up at the Farm; victims of greedy companies, corrupt bankers, and slick politicians.
Their crime spree starts with a break-in burglary at the Davenport Armory to get weapons for robbing a local bank. Before long their mania spreads to include heisting a sporting goods' store and... shootouts with the police, state troopers, and Hoover's Feds. A kidnapping, the killing of a mob extortion-attorney from Chicago, and flight to Venezuela take the reader insider the mind and vehicles of men possessing rampant energy.
Follow the gang through a series of plans gone awry and intemperate, joyous times.

J.S. Roberts was born in 1937, several years after the Henry County gang started their war against banks.
Living in the same indepentdent style as his characters, Roberts graduated 303rd out of 321 from Moline High School.
Advised to leave Augustana College after only six months of attendance because it was a "waste of everyone's time," he only lasted another few months at Moline Community College when he was investigated for a local murder.
A brawler, Roberts ended up in the Menninger Memorial Psychiatric Hospital where he was declared insane; he released himself against medical advice.
Terminated from every job he ever held, Roberts was even let go at a company owned by his father.
The mischievous deeds in this book are so detailed it makes one wonder if he has done more than just writing about robbing banks....
