About the Author:

Dorothy Jones traveled and wrote extensively about Alaska Native people and Alaskan women during her tenure as a professor of sociology at the University of Alaska. Review:

A compelling life story of an Aleutian woman and her people as they struggle to survive a cultural onslaught. -- Lillian Rubin, author of "Tangled Lives: Daughters, Mothers, and the Crucible of Aging

The title character is a modern Native American heroine. -- Margaret Mehring, Ph D, director emerita, Filmic Writing Program, Univ. of So. California

This historical novel is beautiful, complex, stark, violent, and ultimately redeeming. It reflects Alaska villages in the twentieth century. -- Ray Hudson, author of "Moments Rightly Placed: An Aleutian Memoir"
