Preface: Landing a good job and advancing one's career as we move into the 21st century requires more than just responding to job vacancy announcements and waiting to be called for an interview. Increasingly job seekers must move from relatively passive job search activities to those involving greater initiative for uncovering job leads and scheduling interviews with prospective employers. This book is designed to assist you in moving to these active job search activities - getting and conducting interviews in today's job market.
These authors have produced several books on career development (including Ronald's Moving Out of Government , LJ 6/1/82, and Re-Careering in Turbulent Times , LJ 8/83). The same information, while useful, reappears. The present guide offers specific advice for the nervous interviewee, spelling out proper clothing shades and suitable posture. Coverage of a broad range of employment possibilities lends a certain superficiality to the advice. However, the bulk of the book is devoted to preparing for the interview, and at the price, the book is a good purchase for public libraries.
