Review:

The bottom line in this business is the music -- both on record and live. These UNCLE JOE'S cut right to the heart of the matter, eliminating all that is superfluous. -- Danny Sugerman, DOORS' manager and author of NO ONE HERE GETS OUT ALIVE

This sixth book in Benson's discography series chronicles the groups who defined American rock & roll from the late Sixties through the late Seventies -- some of the most influential and popular rockers of all time. The artists covered in this UNCLE JOE'S RECORD GUIDE include: The Allman Brothers Band, Buffalo Springfield, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Crosby, Stills & Nash, The Doors, The Doobie Brothers, Eagles, and Lynyrd Skynyrd. The rock & roll bands covered in this volume of UNCLE JOE'S RECORD GUIDE cover a broad range of music, based on the distinctly American forms of folk, country and blues. These American bands were the first to base most of their lyrics on real subjects: in addition to love and heartbreak, elements of social consciousness and regional pride were included. Each of the groups covered in this volume were just that: groups of musicians pursuing their muse, not bands of sidemen grabbing at commercial success. None based their existence solely on Top 40 success, none were fronted by a leader who hired minions to play the music behind him. All of these groups wrote the majority of their own music, none relied on outsiders to supply hooks and melodies. All of these bands fought their way to the top and made unique, innovative contributions to rock & roll. Each of these American groups affected other musicians and millions of fans, and each reigned as the "Best" America had to offer at some point from the mid-Sixties through late Seventies. The UNCLE JOE'S RECORD GUIDE series of rock history books details artists careers, and every official album and song. Emphasizing the music and creative process, with factual input from the artists, UNCLE JOE'S RECORD GUIDE reveal true insights to the where, how and why of modern rock & roll. --
