Synopsis

Between the years of 1680 and 1793, thirty-six missions were founded in Texas. Five of these were built along the San Antonio River, Yanaguana. Alaong with the presidio, the missions were designed to serve as temporary outposts for "Christianizing" the Indian and making him a Spanish citizen.

About the Author

Mary Ann Noonan Guerra, 83 years old, has been reading, researching and writing about the history of Texas and San Antonio for most of her life. She is the recipient of numerous, writing, historical and preservation awards for her work. Among the local and state awards are those from The Sons of the Republic of Texas, The Daughters of the Republic of Texas and The Yellow Rose of Texas from the Texas Govenor. Mary Ann continues to write today.
