When President Samuel H. Weese began planning for The American College's 70th anniversary, he decided that it would be particularly appropriate to publish a history of the College's 70 years. He contracted with John Baird, author, historian, and business executive, to write a 70-year history of the College. Since Mildred F. Stone had written two books on the early period of the College's history, which serve as valid references, this book emphasizes the most recent 35 years. Baird began his research in 1994 and completed writing The Power of One in 1997.
