David Rowlands, M.D. was born in northern Pennsylvania and educated in medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. Following a residency at the University of Cincinnati and service in the Navy (Key West), he taught and did research in immunology at the University of Colorado, Rockefeller University, duke, the University of Pennsylvania and the University of South Florida. He was department chairman at the latter two institutions.
Despite having ample time for alpine skiing, scuba diving and golf, it became clear that retirement was not to his liking. He then began to teach medicine part time at an "off-shore" medical school and to sail his 38-foot Morgan Coal Cracker throughout the Caribbean.
Author of Medical Schools of the Caribbean, avid sailor and golfer, David Rowlands combined his favorite pastimes in the name of research to provide a refreshing review of golf courses in the eastern Caribbean. He leisurely played and documented the 18-hole golf courses described in this guidebook while cruising from course to course on his sailboat.
