Gordon West has been a licensed ham radio operator for more than 50 years, call sign WB6NOA. He holds the highest level FCC ham license, Amateur Extra Class, as well as the top FCC commercial operator license, the First Class General Radiotelephone Certificate with RADAR endorsement. He is widely-recognized as the leading ham radio educator in America. The ARRL named him "Instructor of the Year" and the Dayton Amateur Radio Association named him their "2006 Amateur of the Year" for his efforts to recruit and train new amateurs, in addition to his lifelong involvement in ham radio. Eric P. Nichols, KL7AJ, has been a licensed amateur radio operator since 1972. He has spent his adult career in various aspects of radio research, broadcast communications, and teaching. A prolific author, he has written many articles for QST, QEX, and a number of other amateur radio magazines, as well as for professional journals. In 2010 and again in 2014 he was the recipient of the William Orr, W6SAI, Technical Writing Award conferred by the American Radio Relay League for articles he authored for QST magazine.
