Down to the Dark River: An Anthology of Contemporary Poems About the Mississippi River is a truly magical work. In poem after poem, we dive into the mighty Mississippi River whose deep waters, shimmering beauty, and destructive power are revealed in their full force . Just as Mark Twain embraced the Mississippi River as the central character in The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, 100 poets capture the river's myriad moods and stark beauty in Down to the Dark River. We explore the Mississippi and its watery beauty in verse that is as powerful as the river itself. Philip Kolin and Jack Bedell have given us a rare gift in Down to the Dark River. --William Ferris, Author of The Storied South: Voices of Writers and Artists
