(From the chapter on Patience) This book is about learning Hold 'Em and how to prevail against your opponents. Here is a very important tip on how to get a leg up on these opponents.

We need to practice the skill of surviving a long absence of playable cards. In order to know how to handle deprivation, we must practice it. Everyone, yes, everyone has these famine conditions. If we are prepared for the bone-dry conditions, we will survive them better than the other players. Let them burn off chips in their frustration to get some action, any action at all. Let them moan, sigh and complain. Let us sit completely still, quiet as rocks and wait for the cards to come our way again. The cards will come. I promise.

The skill of being completely comfortable with a mere pittance of action demands quite a bit of practice. Especially if we are the kinds of people that love to get in there and mix it up.
