Andy does not fit the stereotype image of the western gambler with stogie and cowboy hat. Andy is a free-lance writer, teacher, philosopher, master and student of the game. He is a straight-thinking mater-of-fact writer. He is constantly illustrating theory with actual hands that you are likely to play. His writing is logical, humorous, easy to follow and down to earth.Excerpt. © Reprinted by permission. All rights reserved.:
(From the chapter on What Does A Raise Mean) When you think you have the best hand and you get raised, carefully review the whole hand to try to predict what cards the raiser might be holding. Review what happened before the flop, who raised, who called a raise, what position was the raiser and what position(s) were the callers. There are a great many possibilities to consider. A lot of times the best solution is quite clear and other time it is a real puzzler. The most important fact is that sometimes you can avoid losing some checks if you think hard enough. This technique is important.
