This booklet has been extracted from the eleventh, revised, 1909 edition of A Text-Book of Mechanical Engineering, written by Wilfrid J. Lincham M.Inst. C.E., M.I. Mech.E., M.I.E.E., Hons. B.Sc. in Engineering (Lond.).; a man clearly well qualified to write one of the more extraordinary Edwardian mechanical engineering books: the range of subjects covered is immense. Here you have an up to the minute review of motor car practice, from the days when motoring was in its infancy. The unusual sequence is explained by the majority of the up-dating having been done by adding an extra Appendix for each revision, and we have kept to this, so effectively the technology develops through the booklet. A minimal amount of editing has been done, but only as regards picture location and the drawings positions have been modifies to suit the new layout, with some pictures enlarged.
