Straight Forward Riding is not like any other book on riding theory. Its approach is unusual in that it seeks to demystify the art of good riding, rather than over-complicate it.The message of Straight Forward Riding is clear and simple - essentially because that is what the horse understands. It is about correct,'classical',therapeutic,non-confrontational,emotionally rewarding riding, and its principles apply to the training of all horses in all disciplines. With striking simplicity and a refreshingly horse-friendly attitude, learn how to:
Use your horse as your most reliable teacher
Become the kind of rider that your horse would choose as a partner
Remove blocks and resistance
Appreciate the biomechanics of Natural Equine Movement
Discriminate between suspect advice and sound riding theory
Discover ways to recognise and preserve Natural Equine Locomotion as opposed to MAN-u-factured equine movement

Lesley Ann Taylor learned to ride at the age of eight and went on to make her career with horses. She gained her B.H.S. qualifications and managed various Riding Establishments in the UK. During this time she became less and less enchanted with the mainstream horse world and eventually changed career. Although she continued to teach and ride for pleasure, it wasn't until she met Carol Brett in the late 1980's, that she felt she had found a way of being involved with horses in a way that was fulfilling. The
BALANCE organisation was founded as a result of their collaberation,in 1993. Lesley now spends her time both writing the many articles by BALANCE on its Saddling System and the principles behind the teaching philosophy, including the book 'Straight Forward Riding' which she co-authored with Carol Brett, and working with riders in both the UK and abroad who appreciate that the horse/human parnership creates an environment in which both can learn and grow on many levels.
Carol Brett has had 35 years experience working professionally with racehorses, showjumpers, eventers, foxhunters, dressage horses, driving horses and polo ponies. For most of this time she was a trainer, specialising in flatwork that enables any horse to be balanced, athletic and confident whatever his job. She assisted in the training of the British Pony Three Day Event Team in the early 90's when they won the Gold Medal at the European Championships in Holland. She is a current Pony Club 'A'Test Examiner. She has worked with teachers of both the Alexander Technique and the Feldenkrais Method for the past ten years. She now spends her time introducing the BALANCE philosophy to horse owners and riders in the USA.Review:
