A Model Murder is a fast-paced mystery that draws scary, sometimes hilarious, parallels between alpha males in strip clubs and law firms.
This first book in the Alicia Allen Investigates Trilogy introduces Alicia Allen, a 29-year-old London Anglo-Italian lawyer whose desire for Pringles is matched only by her desire to solve crime. When her neighbor--a beautiful aspiring Australian model--is found raped and murdered before she can pick up her first paycheck at a sleazy "hostess" club, Alicia ignites with such passion to bring the wrongdoer to justice, it would make even Portia envious.
As her dangerous quest draws her into the dark world of exploitative "hostess clubs," Alicia finds herself facing similar circumstances in a new law firm where alpha males roam the halls in solicitor suits intimidating or stalking undervalued female coworkers. Worse luck, the deeper she delves into the investigation, the more her comfortable world falls apart. Friends are viciously attacked...potential lovers may not be what they seem...clues pop up in Italian opera, Shakespeare, and a cat.
Alicia finds her willingness to risk her own life for the sake of justice is sorely put to the test in a world where Fate plays no small role.
The Alicia Allen Investigates crime novels are fast-paced suspense mysteries, full of twists and turns, following in the tradition of writers such as Nicci French and Sue Grafton.

The idea of writing a crime novel came to me after relaying to a friend some experience I had had within the law and him asking whether I had ever considered putting my thoughts down on paper. A Model Murder started with some pencil scribblings jotted down on the back of an envelope. My then literary agent told me that I would have to write more than one book to be taken seriously as a crime writer which led to Wilful Murder and finally Murder in Hand to complete the first Alicia Allen Investigates series.
Alicia is very much the product of my imagination, but I have used my experiences of working within the legal profession and my love of Italy and Italian and, of course Pringles, in her creation.
Alicia Allen is a London solicitor about to discover she has an unusual flair for solving crime. When her Australian neighbour, Tamsin Brown, a model, is brutally raped and beaten to death, her flatmate Kimberley Davies begs for Alicia's help and she cannot easily refuse. After her inquisitive elderly neighbour Dorothy Hammond is savagely attacked, Alicia knows there's no turning back and she soon becomes embroiled in the hunt for Tamsin's killer and the sleazy world of hostess clubs. Meanwhile, having accepted a new job at the firm of Wilson, Weil & Co., where Kimberley works as a secretary, she discovers that nothing there is as it seems and that nobody can be trusted, not even a Junior Partner called Alexander Waterford to whom she is attracted. Alicia's tenacious investigations, however, have life-threatening consequences for those drawn into the evil web created by Tamsin's killer, who believes there is such a thing as a model murder.
Celia Conrad has created a delightful lead character in Alicia Allen and readers of cerebral legal crime novels will be as enthralled by the Pringle-eating, half-Italian solicitor with her witty repartee, incisive curiosity and passion for justice, as they will be with this well-crafted novel's inventive plot and strong narrative voice, which also provides a fascinating glimpse into the world of a young London lawyer, and will keep you gripped and guessing until the final twist.
