A humour that would be tried and tested to the extreme during the forthcoming ambitious adventures of her offspring. George studied the flight of birds and at 12 years old he tried to fly with a sheet tied to his wrists and ankles but plunged 80 ft. to the sandy beach below the cliffs. A broken leg and a sprained wrist did not prevent further attempts to fly but unfortunately at the age of nineteen he eventually succombes to the inevitable. He is buried in Ower churchyard in 1857 but not before he passed on to his son Timothy an enquiring mind and an interest in flying ? and so it went on.* This is a NEAR FINE copy of the 1st./1st. thus with minimal shelf wear & very slight marks reducing it to VG.* 2007-01-01. n.
