Pages are clean and unmarked and in excellent condition. This is the story of Captain Simon Jacob Englehardt Jorgensen (1856-1926) and his unsinkable lifeboat, the Storm King. He and his mate Johannes Nielsen, both young but experienced Norwegian seamen, set off from Victoria Docks in London on the 12th September 1889 and arrived in Adelaide in South Australia on 4th August 1890. Their aim was to prove to the world that such a boat would lessen the loss of life at sea, for it was fitted with sails and had cabin space below. During the voyage they weathered fierce storms, were followed by hungry sharks and, worst of all, at one time they were completely without pipe tobacco. In the Great Australian Bight they were hit by a liner and capsized. They survived all this, but the struggle to have the lifeboat adopted had only just begun . Quantity Available: 1.
