Author Gan Bruce's people came to Lightning Ridge in 1908 in a horse and sulky. They worked the opal fields alongside the lucky and the unlucky and passed the stories down to Gan who retells them here as lively and colourful anecdotes. But it is the story of the opal fields themselves that dominates - gleaned from a family history steeped in the legends of the "great finds"and of the characters who worked the various fields. Profusely illustrated with historic photos.
