Soft cover. Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. Ownership name, otherwise a very tidy copy. "The Fairmile Flotillas of the Royal New Zealand Navy" by K.R. Cassells tells the story of New Zealand's fleet of Fairmile motor launches used during World War II. These small, fast vessels were built quickly to protect New Zealand's coastline from submarine threats. They were part of a broader effort to bolster naval defenses during a time of real vulnerability. The Fairmiles were later sent to the Solomon Islands, where they supported American operations in the Pacific. The book explains how these launches were crewed, maintained, and deployed, and it highlights the challenges faced by the men who served on them. After the war, many of the boats were repurposed?some became ferries or pleasure craft, and a few were still afloat nearly fifty years later. Cassells includes photographs, maps, and technical details. Seller Inventory # 049864
