Synopsis
Definitive encyclopedia listing the more than 2500 railroads that were either built or chartered (but never built) in Pennsylvania. The first section covers railroads that only existed in one county; the second section covers railroads that crossed more then one county. Locomotive rosters (some incomplete) are included for all railroads except major interstate carriers. The book also covers locomotive and car builders, railroads of the anthracite industry, articulated locomotives in the state, railroad museums, etc. 507 pages. Note: The book does not cover electric street railways (trolleys and interurbans). There is a separate Mr. Taber of locomotive photographs on these lines called "Short-line Steam of Pennsylvania."

Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Burgundy cloth covers are mostly clean, with gilt title on spine. Corners are a little scuffed. See photos. Spine has gilt text and is bright with firm ends. Binding is secure. End papers/ pastedowns show little to no sign of age or wear. Addenda are found in a pocket inside the back cover. Illustrations, black and white photographs, are bright and clear. Interior is gently age-toned. Inside pages are free of writing and intentional marks. Hardcover. Condition: Very Good+. Limited Edition. Dark red cloth, just a hint of edge rubbing, with former owner's name stamp inside front and rear. There is no indication of the number of copies of this book in existance (it is rare) , but this copy is numbered 153 with a pencil notation of "John" by the number. Rear pocket has Addendum #5 -#7 of books, with a pencil notation, probably from the author, that addendums 1-4 have been incorporated in the text. Drawn maps in 2 color (red and blue) photographs. This is a compilation of all incorporated railroads in PA, whether built or not, and all unincorporated line-haul railroads. It is organized by county, by major railroads, and the a section of "sidelights", which is interesting material on railroads not encompassed by other categories. ; 4to 11" - 13" tall; 500 pages; Signed by Author.
