Trade paperback. Condition: Good. Presumed First Edition/First Printing. 23 cm. viii, 341, [3] pages. Wraps. Illustrations. Some wear and soiling to covers. Pencil erasure on front endpaper. The Fund for Constitutional Government (FCG) is a publicly supported, charitable, nonprofit corporation that supports or fiscally sponsors organizations and journalists dedicated the exposure and correction of corruption and the violation of constitutional principles in the U.S. federal government as well as other major national organizations. Located on Capitol Hill, FCG works to bring to light instances of corruption which have a large public impact, have a precedent-setting value, and which, if rectified, will aid in preserving an open and accountable government. The editor wrote that "In the early 1980s, the Pentagon was in the midst of several new generations of tanks, aircraft and missiles. It was in one of the hottest times of the cold war and I had many sources tell me that, because of nuclear weapons, there probably wasn't going to be a land war with the Soviet Union in Europe, so these weapons were just window dressing. Much of the attitude was that it didn't matter much if these weapons failed and cost too much. The cold war was perfect for DoD, they could project that their new technically laden weapon could do all types of terrifying things, but they were reasonably sure that they would not be used in a major war. The problem of expensive weapons that didn't work led me to edit a book in 1982 entitled "More Bucks, Less Bang." The book reproduced articles on weapon failures with an introduction and final chapter on how the system failed and what to do about it. Now we are seeing our next generation of weapons costing more, but doing less than promised. Seller Inventory # 32789
