Stolen Years, in my little corner of the world.
The Baque region of France is an area rarely visited by foreigners. It is due to its location on the map of southwest France. Most Americans visit the Riviera.
The Basques' role during the WWII German occupation of France has been overlooked because the fighting was in the northwest and northeast of France. Some fighting occurred during the American landing on the southeast Mediterranean coast.
Professionals, Basque smugglers, border farmers sneaked thousands of downed Alllied crew members, Jews and anyone escaping the terror of the Nazi regime into Spain. My brother's role as a member of the Basque underground escape network is documented in a French book. The publisher gave Eskualdun Publishers permission to duplicate that document in Stolen Years.
For easy reading from age ten to 100 or more, I wrote Stolen Years in story telling form. The book is sprinkled with authentic photographs. Historically and thoroughly researched.
I describe our family life during those difficult and how my teenager years were stolen. I was going on sixteen when we were occupied and twenty when we were liberated. Never had a chance to continue my education or do what teenagers do: dancing, buying clothes, eat goodies and many other things.
