Spiral_bound. Condition: Near fine condition. First edition. Oblong Octavo. 184, Original spiral-bound, illustrated stiff wraps in variant colors with white and black lettering on covers. Endpapers in variant colors.Illustrated title pages. With illustrated essays by Michael D. Coe, Mary Ellen Miller, Linda Schele, David Stuart, Justin Kerr, and others at rear of each volume. Photography by Justin Kerr, design by Barabara Kerr. Profusely illustrated with rollout images of Mayan vases throughout. Volume one contains the rollout images of two hundred images of vases that were previously published. Kerr designed and built the rollout camera for the purpose of depicting three-dimensional objects, vases and other vessels, in a two-dimensional photographic image. For the purpose of this book rollout photographs of vases have been eliminated that were deemed to "have been overpainted beyond the bounds of meaning, or that they are total fakes. The vases are being published in chronological order, as they were photographed. I have made no attempt to put the vases in any particular order, since each person will have individual study needs and usages. I have occasionally made reference by vase number, to related themes that may have some bearing on a specific vase. In some cases I have suggested a connection between vases, either from the point of view of the artist's hand, or some iconographic message. I have included some new readings of glyphic passages as well." (Kerr). Minor wear. Seller Inventory # 55329
