Paul Downing was inducted into the Rockhound and Lapidary Hall of Fame in December 1998, but his love affair with opal began in 1963 and he admittedly has addicted many others as "dyed in the wool" opalholics.
He is the author of four books on opal, over 20 articles for Lapidary Journal and Rock & Gem magazines, plus numerous professional newsletters. In 1992 and 1993 he received three highly coveted AGTA Cutting Edge awards.
Although now retired from the opal business, he has turned his attention to fly fishing and continues to write articles for various fishing magazines and has published a new book on western fishing.Review:
