This book contains the text from almost 5000 mathematics problems that were published in journal problem columns during the years 1975-1979. The problems are classified and then sorted by topic. References are given for the journal, year, and page number where the solution to the problem can be found in the literature. Also included are comprehensive author, title, and citation indexes as well as problems from national, regional, and international mathematical competitions.

Stanley Rabinowitz received his Ph.D. in mathematics from the Polytechnic University (of New York) working under the direction of Erwin Lutwak in the areas of convexity, combinatorics, and number theory. Professionally, he is a software engineer and computer consultant, but math problem solving has been his hobby most of his life. He has had over 300 problems published and is a regular contributor, both as solver and proposer, to the problem columns of over a dozen journals from around the world. Dr. Rabinowitz has been associated with the MAA’s committee on the American Mathematical Competitions for over 15 years. He belongs to many professional societies, including AMS, MAA, SIAM, ACM and the World Federation of National Mathematics Competitions. He was the editor for the elementary problem column in The Fibonacci Quarterly for many years. Mark Bowron received his B.S. and M.S. degrees in mathematics from the University of Washington in 1983 and the University of Virginia in 1986, respectively. Realizing in 1993 that nobody would ever pay him to solve mathematical problems, he decided to index them instead. Now he realizes that nobody will ever pay him to index mathematical problems either. As a result, he is seriously thnking of becoming a truck driver.Review:
This Index is the ideal retirement gift for a mathematician to allow the fun of the subject to be rediscovered. --Richard T. Bumby from the foreword
