About the Author

John Flynn, from Billings, Montana, graduated from Montana State University with a degree in civil engineering. He entered into partnership with his father in a construction company that built bridges and dams all over eastern and northeastern Montana, including projects in Yellowstone Park. In 1980, his wife, Brooke, finished her first quilt top and asked him to design a quilting frame. He soon developed a lap scroll frame to accommodate her quilt. John then started quilting to field test the frames--and discovered how relaxing and satisfying hand quilting can be.

Gradually, manufacturing and selling the frames and presenting quilt workshops became a full-time occupation. Now, John and Brooke's company, Flynn Quilt Frame Company, has published four of John's books. His latest invention, the Multi-Frame can be used for no-baste hand or machine quilting. He's had numerous articles printed in major quilt publications and has received many awards for his quilts. He has taught across the United States and Canada, in Japan, Europe, Mexico and Australia.

The Double Wedding Ring is one of the most recognized quilt patterns. Folks who don't know their "Bear's Paw" from "A Hole in the Barn Door" will immediately recognize the "Double Wedding Ring" and will have a story about a beautiful one in their family ...My method uses simple strip-piecing. For a first project, I recommend one of the larger ring sizes - 12, 15, 18 or 24 inch - for easier piecing. Once you have the piecing procedure mastered, the smaller rings will not be difficult.
