Synopsis

EMPOWERING DISCIPLINE presents a new, more effective approach for changing inappropriate behavior in at-risk students. Most school discipline programs attempt to CONTROL student behavior. When this approach fails, schools attempt to tighten their control, which usually results in these students escalating their negative behavior. Students with no aspirations, who feel they have nothing to lose, can end up "winning" any power struggle because they don't care about our "consequences." In contrast, EMPOWERING DISCIPLINE recognizes the need of most at-risk students to be self-directed. It is filled with practical strategies for working with students instead of against them by putting them in charge of their educational program.
