Bradford Drake was born in 1954 West Virginia, the son of a Harvard Med School surgeon and U.S. Navy nurse. Brad learned chess in the 9th grade and read the New York Times chess column by Al Horowitz. Brad played in Michigan tournaments and made expert when he was 23. He defeated grandmasters Norman Weinstein and Walter Browne in simultaneous exhibits. He wrote the games and analysis column for Michigan Chess 1978-79 with New York City friend Jeremy Barth. Brad got a draw with Indiana champion Jason Doss at 2003 Pendleton simul exhibit and drew New Jersey master David Green in a 77 move battle(2008).Brad is a chemist who seeks work in Philalelphia, New JERSEY or New York City area. He is related to chemist Nathan L. Drake who made perfumes 2-heptanone and benzalacetone.He is also related to Edwin L. Drake who drilled the first oil well in USA August 1859 at Titusville, Pennsylvania! Brad has been USCF expert since 1978 and won Indiana Memorial tournament with 5-0 score and 2254 master performance!
