Geri Mendoza Gutwein was born at the Old Cheyenne Agency and grew up on the Cheyenne River Sioux Reservation in South Dakota. She teaches Creative Writing and Native American Literature at the Harrisburg Area Community College, following years of teaching in South Dakota and California. Geri holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in English Education from Black Hills State University in Spearfish, South Dakota; and a Master of Arts Degree from the Bread Loaf School of English in Middlebury, Vermont; and has studied at Lincoln College, Oxford University, Oxford, England.
