The physical science section outlines the dynamics of the Arctic Ocean, earthquakes and volcanos, ice on sea and land, and includes a star chart of the boreal skies. There are detailed regional checklists of Arctic birds and mammals, with many of the common species pictured. The appendix includes a geological time scale, the latitude and longitude of Arctic places, conversion charts and an extensive bibliography.
