LEGENDS OF THE HEISMAN. Winning the Heisman has become bigger than winning the lead in a Broadway hit, a record contract, an Emmy, even an Oscar ... shoot, even the lottery. The Heisman Trophy is tantamount to absolutely nothing that the world has to offer. It is, without comparison, the greatest prize every young American male with a normal load of testosterone most cherishes.
Don Gwaltney takes a reverent look at the history of college football leading up to the Heisman, and shares inciteful biographies of each winner since the inception of the trophy.

The single most-mentioned question in sports pages during the college football season is: Who's going to win the Heisman? It is constantly hyped, from before the season until long after each year's award is made. The presentation itself is an annual hour-long TV special with appropriate hype before and after. It is amazing to us that until now there has been no book that pays tribute all winners of the Heisman from its inception in 1935. Winning the Heisman is like going to heaven while you're still in college and you have your whole life ahead of you on earth. This book is a must for the library of every football fan in the country. Importantly, proceeds of book sales will be donated to the College Football Hall of Fame. From the Author:
I have followed college football with a passion since I was a child some 55 years ago. Before I was 10, I made up my own All America teams and they were usually the same as AP and UPI would later announce. I then played college football and studied journalism. I always wanted to write a tribute to the heroes of college football and have finally done so. I've covered the greats who've played in three centuries. I plan to update the book each year -- right after the new Heisman winner is selected.
