9780964275508: You Must Not Let Them Con You! There's Too Much at Stake

We live in a world of words, a realm in which the untutored are preyed upon by the unscrupulous. Without a map to guide us through this mine field of verbal pitfalls and traps, we cannot distinguish between the genuine and the counterfeit. We now have such a guide in You Must Not Let Them Con You! There's Too Much at Stake. With an ever-increasing verbal torrent from the media, it's a work whose time has come.

About the Author:

Dr. Irving David Shapiro is the holder of four college degrees -- one bachelor's, 2 master's, and 1 doctorate. He is a member of Mensa as well as of the International Society for General Semantics. He was an adjunct professor in the Sixties at the USC Graduate School of Business Administration, a post he held after a brief stint as a Ford Foundation Fellow, a Harriman Scholar, and an Armand G. Erpf Scholar at Columbia University, where he was also a teaching assistant in Statistical Methods. On the non-academic side, Dr. Shapiro, whose mini-essays on language were broadcast over radio for a number of years, co-founded a California bank, worked as a radio talk-show host and newsman, and practiced architecture for thirteen years during which he earned four design awards. He is also founder and president of the Mens Sana Foundation.

Review:

"I think your book is the most stimulating (and challenging) work that I've come across in a long time. I'm having a hard time putting it down. Each day I rush home from work to get back to it . . . Some of the best thinking on the relationship between mind-brain-language that I've ever seen. Impressive! More importantly, useful! . . . All in all: I am loving it. Few things have been as thought-provoking. . . Thanks for the book. It really means a lot . . ."

Dr. Shapiro has written an exciting and much needed book. Hes a first-rate teacher. If I could, Id make it compulsory reading for all adults. It has caused me to now continually examine, question, and talk to myself, to argue with my TV set, and to listen to everything with new ears. "You Must Not Let Them Con You! Theres Too Much at Stake" is, next to the Bible, the most valuable text for living that I know.

" . . . I consider . . . [your book] . . . my bible on clear thinking . . . reading your work stimulated me in entirely new directions . . . what a masterful mind you have!" -- Publisher Comments
