Challenging, musically advanced, yet warm and funny, all the songs on this audio will delight children. The lyrics don't talk down to children, but give them what their older siblings have--well produced and intelligently conceived songs by an array of artists, arranged in a contemporary style. Full-Color.

Grade 1-3?Lyricist Potter and composer Green have collaborated on two books with accompanying audio cassettes. The tapes are well produced, but the selections are pale imitations of songs that already exist. "The World's Most Wonderful Machine" from Fun Stuff is not as magical as Tom Paxton's toy; "Summer Never Ends" fades when compared to the Beach Boys' tunes it echoes. Also, the books' format does not match the intended audience: the hard cardboard pages and whimsical artwork give them a preschool look, while the selections themselves hold more appeal for the grade-school crowd. Hoffman's illustrations for Another New Day seem to be oddly stylized summaries of the accompanying songs; Hawkes's rich paintings capture childhood joys better than the "stuff" they illustrate. Music arrangement is not included.?Kathleen Whalin, Greenwich Country Day School, CT
