Ray Underwood was recognized by the entertainment industry as a young man of prodigious and various talents. His career included acting, singing and song writing. He performed many roles in film, television and on stage. He provided lyrics for a variety of composers including Maurice Jarre, Darrell Brown, Ludar, Rick Tan Gordon and Paul Horner, and complied a body of work from pop songs to folk and art songs performed by such artists as Michael Feinstein, Vanessa Williams, Lisa Edwards and opera star Juliana Gondek. Ray began to write poetry in earnest at the age of 16, having been encouraged by the noted American poet Anne Sexton, who said, "This is not merely the work of one who writes poems. Rather, it is that of a poet." He continued to write poetry throughout his life. He died January 16, 1993, in Montecito, California.Review:
