In 1944 Japanese artist Yoshiharu Tsunoi said goodbye to his family and embarked for the Philippine Islands as a draftee of the Imperial Japanese Army. He took with him his flute, a picture of his fiance, and a silk flag presented by his father and autographed by family and other well-wishers. Six months later, Yoshiharu lay dead in a jungle on Bataan.
Fifty years of silence passed, then, inexplicably, Yoshiharu's flag resurfaced in a hospital in Northern California, where nurse and writer, Yvonne Boisclaire, made it her personal goal to reunite the flag with Yoshiharu's family. This is the intriguing true story of Yoshiharu Tsunoi, his glorious Banzai, his tragic death and his mysterious past discovered so many years later.
