Kat O’Malley is living the nine lives of a cat and not having an easy time of it. After four hundred years on the wrong side of prejudice, intolerance, poverty and even witch hunts, all she really wants to do with her fifth life is hide out on a mirage with a bunch of cats. Everything is fine until a man wanders into Kat’s mirage. When he hears her story, he convinces her to put her rotten experience to good use as a history teacher at a nearby school, where he’s the headmaster. Skeptical at first, Kat takes him up on the offer. She lives a double-life, spending a few days a week teaching underdog history lessons that never made it into the books and then slipping back to her hidden oasis, hoping no one will follow. But one of her students does follow her, and when tragedy strikes, Kat is caught up in the nightmares of her past once again. She must ultimately decide whether to retreat forever into the safety of her cat-filled mirage or embrace the new life she’s created and the one person who knows her secret.

From the Publisher:

"Fifth Life of the Catwoman" by Kathleen Dexter has received three national awards. The print version (Llano Press) was the overall winner in the Writer's Digest National Self Publishing Awards (fiction). The unabridged audiobook is a silver winner in ForeWord Magazine's Book of the Year Awards (audiobooks) and one of three finalists in the Independent Publisher Book Awards (unabridged audio fiction).

The narrator, Cindy Hollenberg, has received high marks from The Boston Globe audiobook critic, Rochelle O'Gorman, as well as from AudioFile reviewers.

"Fifth Life of the Catwoman" is a beautifully written story which asks us to stretch our reality just a bit and converse with our familiars (cats in this instance), digging deep into ourselves by asking: What would I do differently in this life if I knew I had to jump -- nine times -- back into whatever mess I'm now creating in this lifetime? "Fifth Life of the Catwoman" is appropriate for teenagers as well as adults. In fact, it would make for some VERY interesting discussions in a high school history, literature, or sociology class!

About the Author:

While majoring in education and minoring in music at the University of New mexico, Kathleen Dexter worked as a ghostwriter and producer for a children's storytelling program on KUNM (Albuquerque), an affiliate of NPR. This eventually led her to found her own company, Zephyr Tapes and Books, which specializes in stories from the southwest. She worked for ten years in the "movie industry circus" on various film projects while completing her master's degree in psychology. She began writing fiction when one of her professors commented that "The real students of human nature aren't psychologists -- they're novelists."
