Mary Holland is a naturalist, newspaper columnist and nature photographer who lives in Hartland, Vermont. Her work in the field of environmental education has included employment with the Massachusetts Audubon Society and the Vermont Institute of Natural Science, where she directed the statewide Environmental Learning for the Future (ELF) elementary school program for several years. Mary's self-designed hands-on “Knee-high Nature Programs” were given to K - 3rd graders through Vermont schools and libraries. Mary currently compiles the weekly Vermont Rare Bird Alert and writes a bi-weekly newspaper column, “naturally curious,” which appears in the Valley News, a daily newspaper for the Upper Valley region in Vermont and New Hampshire. Mary's nature photographs have been in several shows and are used in her greeting card business. Milkweed Visitors, which Mary both wrote and photographed, is her first children's book. Mary offers a program based on her book to schools, libraries, retirement communities and garden clubs throughout central Vermont and New Hampshire.
