Benny Meng began his Wing Chun training in Hong Kong in 1982 under Sifu Lee Hoi Sang. He also trained under Sifu Moy Yat in New York City in 1985, became Moy Yat's disciple in 1986. He officially started teaching Ving Tsun Kung Fu in 1987.
In 1994, Benny Meng began another journey through the system with Sifu Moy Yat, this time in private lessons. With Moy Yat's blessing, Benny Meng began another journey through the system in 1995 via extensive private lessons with Sifu Yip Ching. Sifu Meng has also trained formally with Sifu Chu Shong Tin and Sifu Yip Chun. The Ving Tsun Museum, the Ving Tsun Athletic Association, and the Moy Yat International Ving Tsun Federation recognize him as a Senior Instructor.
Benny Meng's passion for Wing Chun research has been fueled at an ever-accelerating rate by his position as Curator of the Ving Tsun Museum. To broaden his knowledge of the original system, Benny Meng sought further training from lineages separate from Yip Man. Sifu Meng is currently researching Hung Fa Yi Wing Chun under Sifu Garrett Gee.Review:
I enjoyed reading this book. It expresses the deeper aspects of Wing Chun Kung Fu. It is one of the only books that contains more than the techniques, covering Wing Chun culture and etiquette. -- Mike Mathews
Many martial arts books are quick to demonstrate forms with a lot of pictures and not a lot of text. This book is a pleasant departure from the norm. As a novice to Wing Chun kung fu, I found the first six chapters to be very informative, enlightening and yet technical in the realms of Kung Fu culture. The other four gave me many technical details on the forms often overlooked in those "martial art picture books." I have yet to read a martial art book that matches the expressiveness or clarity of the Voice of the Ving Tsun System. Year's later, after having met Grand Master Moy Yat, I feel this book truly captures his uniquely original way of expressing his understanding of martial arts. -- Jeremy Roadruck
