When he first saw her, Eric Ford was driving along at a leisurely rate just at the edge of town. She was walking rapidly toward him down the sun drenched sidewalk, ash-blond hair bouncing with each energetic step. Eric's eyes passed over her indifferently at first--then shock slammed into his stomach like an invisible fist, setting his heart to pounding and almost paralyzing his strong hands upon the wheel. A strangled mutter burst from his constricted throat, "It can't be Linn! It can't be! She's--dead! But the apparition had the same ash-blond hair, worn loose and parted in the middle above a pointed face; the same slender, long-limbed, neat figure; was about five feet, five inches tall and looked about twenty-three years old.
