When one of her ex-students is found dead in the town library, Miss Prentice finds herself working with Gil Dickensen, her long-ago ex-fiance, to find the murderer. The rumor mill says that Marguerite's death was a self-induced drug overdose, but Miss Prentice can't believe that Marguerite was a drug user. But who would want to kill Marguerite and why?

Amelia Prentice, a forty-something high school English teacher comfortable in her predictable routine, suddenly awakens in the middle of a tragedy. She has tripped over the corpse of a former student in the safest of places, the Public Library. Now nothing of her cozy small town life in New York's Adirondack region will ever be the same. Amelia, whose pet peeve is the use of the non-word "irregardless," determinedly returns to the classroom wearing the badge of her grisly encounter--a huge bandage on her forehead--and tries to pretend nothing has happened. Soon, though, she is forced to deal with the facts: the victim's death wasn't simply a tragic accident and she is now a murder suspect.About the Author:
Ellen Edwards Kennedy calls herself a "Southern-ized Yankee," which means she knows how to use "y'all" properly, but never drops her g's. Born in Alabama, she grew up in Miss Prentice's region of far northern New York State and lived with her husband and children across the South and West. She feels this has given her a deep love for these areas and a sharp ear for regional accents.
Through high school and college, she performed in summer stock and briefly nursed the vain dream of becoming a Broadway musical star, but settled for a career as an advertising copywriter. Her recent experiences as a high school substitute teacher make her uniquely qualified to translate obscure adolescent dialects into understandable English. She is a volunteer reader at the Triangle Reading Service, which provides audio literature to the visually impaired.
Ellen Kennedy is a member of Sisters in Crime, a graduate of Huntingdon College, a mother of two lovely grown-up daughters, a happily married wife of 25 years, and a born-again Christian. She is currently at work on a Miss Prentice sequel and a mystery set in small-town Texas. She and her husband live in North Carolina.
