Hello, my name is Andrew Gold and I'd like to thank you for stopping by to check out Walk with Me through the Internet.
I wrote Walk with Me through the Internet for my parents who are newcomers to the Internet. My parents have passed many happy years of their lives without computers or the Internet. Because I work with the Internet for a living, and have a deep appreciation for its power of communication, I did not want to let years and years go by without my parents and other newcomers learning how to use the Internet in an easy and fun way.
I think the Internet is pretty cool. As the Artistic Director for the premier Internet technologies and software solutions company, OMIX, Inc., I have produced highly successful web presences for Hewlett Packard, Cisco Systems, Microsoft, CALABRIA, and many more "big name" companies. I also produce Sunshine Daydream, the source for outdoor adventure activities in the San Francisco Bay Area.
In short, I found the Internet to be so important that I just could not bear to see my parents missing out on this tremendously powerful communication tool. And that's why I wrote Walk with Me through the Internet.
As far as my background, I grew up in Western Pennsylvania, in the little town of Greensburg, about 40 miles east of Pittsburgh. I attended the Lawrenceville School for high school, lived a year in Brazil as a Rotary International Exchange Student, and graduated with a pre-med degree (concentration in Neural Systems) from the University of Pennsylvania located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
I decided not to proceed with a medical career and moved out to San Francisco after graduating from Penn in the Spring of 1994. I worked as a technical support specialist for Dantz Development Corporation which leads the industry in powerful network backup software for PCs and Macintoshes.
After the Internet explosion in the fall of 1995 I joined a small startup company called Online Marketspace Internet Exchange> which quickly became OMIX. Over the course of the last three years, the Internet has grown, OMIX has grown, and I have grown a whole bunch and that's what makes it so fun! Enjoy the sunshine!
