From the Publisher:
Michael H. Price is an American original and I'm proud to be involved with him in producing this volume, the first in a series of illustrated anthologies covering a wide range of genres. Combine that with some of the finest talent in the comics industry like Frank Stack, Mark Martin, George Turner and others and you have a bona-fide, sure-fire, and most excellent read. I'd recommend it even if I wasn't involved! -- Larry Shell
From the Author:

"SOUTHERN-FRIED HOMICIDE has been a good forty-five years in the making, considering that I first heard many of its stories as a very small child from two grandmothers who, themselves, had heard those yarns as very small children. One grandmother in particular loved ghost stories -- the kind that are at once scary and funny - and she had hundreds of 'em. The other grandmother was merely scary in her own right. Each contributed mightily to my appreciation of rural folklore.

Other inspirations came from the Southern/Southwestern legacy of crime legends, which I've collected since my schoolboy days. Crime and folklore go pretty much hand-in-hand, at any rate.

I hadn't really given much thought to a collection of these until 1996, when all these old stories began reasserting themselves in my memory, practically demanding: "Write us!"

So anyhow, I've always been fond of the comics medium -- and here, I thought, was a chance to retell some favorite old stories with illustrations by many of my favorite artists. Hence the selection of Frank Stack, Mark Martin, George Turner, Mark Evan Walker, and in future volumes, Timothy Truman, Spain Rodriguez, Justin Green, et al.

The early reviews have remarked a likeness between SOUTHERN-FRIED HOMICIDE and the classic E.C. Comics of the '50s. This is no coincidence, for I grew up reading that good old stuff like CRIME SUSPENSTORIES and TALES FROM THE CRYPT. But we're also intent on bringing something more to the table than just admiration. I've often wondered where the E.C.'s would have gone, artistically and thematically, had they not been witch-hunted to death, and in many ways the SOUTHERN-FRIED project is such a conjecture.
