My mother's love of books inspired me to write. She was always reading. I guess deep down inside I wanted her to one day read a book that I had written. Born in Chicago, Illinois Frederic Talton graduated from Lewis University with a B.A. degree in Business Administration. At first Frederic wasn't sure what he wanted to major in. I had heard one to many petrifying rationalizations about how I'd starve to death pursuing a writing career . Wanting to make good money after graduation Frederic opted for a career in business and enjoyed success especially during the Telecommunications boom in the early 1990's working large Corporate 500 companies located in such places as Australia, South Africa, London, Puerto Rico and Canada. Even though I was successful and traveling the globe, something was missing. After being downsized from his job as a mid-level corporate executive in the Information Technology Industry, Frederic started thinking seriously about what his next career move would be. Now off the road he took on homework duty with is seven year old son. After setting up a Homework Boot Camp for his 7 year old son and some of his classmates and reading dozens of children s books, Talton picked up the pieces of a dream long deferred writing a book. An avid reader himself Talton began sharpening his writing skills and researching the self-publishing industry. Along with his writing he began tutoring elementary school children in reading and math and also volunteered as a group discussion leader with the Great Books Foundation, founded in 1947 by Robert Maynard Hutchins, then President of the University of Chicago and philosopher and scholar Mortimer J. Adler. During the tutoring sessions I heard so many children tell me what they couldn t do, sometimes without even trying. They just didn t believe in themselves . Every time the word can t was spoken the students were reminded that the only way they could use the word can t was without the T . Thus the catchphrase and a book were born. I always knew one day I d write a book say s Talton. The combination of that dream and working with children led to his first book ........ Say I Can t without the T ...I CAN! Frederic is currently President & CEO of Scroll and Clipboard Publications, Inc. and resides in Chicago, Illinois.Review:
"As an educator, concerned citizen and parent, I highly recommend this book, because it provides a positive outlook into the future for our children. Read it with your child and remove the word "can't" from your child's vocabulary." - --Dr. Theresa Dixon. Ed.D, The Gloria J. Taylor Foundation --Dr. Theresa Dixon, The Gloria J. Taylor Foundation
"Excellent...a light, engaging narrative with positive messages that will help children develop belief in themselves and their Dreams. It starts with a Dream. Be the person you want to be. It happened to me...and it can happen to you. If you think you can...you CAN! --Daniel Rudy Ruettiger - the inspiration behind the TriStar blockbuster motion picture, "Rudy"
