The 3rd edition of the atlas includes 113 plates of parasites and their vectors, containing 600 individual photographs, all but 6 in color. The book is spiral bound and covered with a sheet of clear 10-mil plastic. Printed on a color laser printer at 600x600 dpi, the images clearly show diagnostic features important for parasite identification. A brief explanatory text accompanies each plate on the facing page, emphasizing major characteristics of the parasite's structure, life cycle, and medical significance. The majority of the photographs are of commercially available microscope slide specimens, making this atlas a useful companion to laboratory courses in parasitology. Unlike previous inkjet versions, the colors and text are water fast, and can be used in the laboratory.

This atlas is intended as an aid for students in a Parasitology course. Such courses typically require students to learn the microscopic appearance of parasites using commercially available microscope slides. This atlas, consisting mostly of photomicrographs of these same specimens, hopefully will enable students to locate and study parasites independently, at the same time reinforcing lecture information with the textual description accompanying each photograph.About the Author:
Dr. John T. Sullivan is Fletcher Jones Professor of Biology at the University of San Francisco, where he teaches Parasitology.
